Read Banks’ masterful overview of research about why more African Americans aren’t married. Many women are left single, he concludes, not only because there aren’t enough men, but also because the good male prospects don’t have to marry. He reaches the unusual but well argued conclusion that black women and their children would be better off if marriages between black women and white men were seen as a serious option.
